About Me
Emma Marie Teresa Colarte Delgado
My name is Emma Colarte Delgado and I am a current senior at American Heritage School. With a passion for both journalism and science research, I have grown to love both science and writing over the years.

As a native Floridian, I have lived in Miramar, Westchester, and now Southwest Ranches with my parents and younger sister. I come from Cuban and Honduran descent, and I grew to love cooking food from my parents' heritage.
Some of my interests include reading fantasy and science fiction novels, watching concert films and rom-coms, and listening to my favorite artists, like Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and Sabrina Carpenter.

Journalism

Through my work, I've won multiple awards, including having our publication named the Most Outstanding Publication with Special Merit by the American Scholastic Press Association, a personal Award of Merit from SIPA, an All-Florida for the iPatriotPost while editor, and multiple FSPA individual awards (4 Excellents, 3 All-Florida, 11 honorable mentions, a First Place). I also competed in the Journalism event at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) state competition, and won 2nd place, qualifying for nationals. This event focused primarily on AP Style and publication knowledge.

I have been taking journalism classes every year since seventh grade. I started with Junior High Journalism and Broadcast, and then took Multimedia Honors my freshman year before switching to Newspaper Honors.
In newspaper, I continued to expand on my journalistic skills by becoming Assistant Editor-in-Chief and later Editor-in-Chief of our online publication. In addition to my work on the iPatriotPost, I also reinstated the Sigma Xi Research Magazine as one of the only two staffers and Editor-in-Chief. This publication is one I created myself to help highlight our science researcher's work in a journal-like setting. I also am a current MediaWise Teen Fact-Checker (9% acceptance rate).
Science Research
Even though this a journalism award, you can't truly understand me without understanding my heavy science background as well. I have been a part of the science research program at my school for three years now, and have conducted three independent science research projects in the realm of behavioral science and neuroscience. My time is split between working as Editor-in-Chief and completing my research projects.

My projects have won on the international level, and I have even been featured on the Junior Edison Chinese TV Show for my work. My love for both journalism and my want to continue research has led to me hoping to follow a career in perhaps science journalism. I hope to major in both neuroscience and journalism in college.
